Diagnosis and Treatment

Diagnosis

Lyme disease is a clinical diagnosis and there is currently no reliable confirmatory laboratory test in Canada or the United States.

For testing options, please contact us at info@lymenb.ca or telephone us at one of the numbers listed under the heading Questions.

Treatment

Your health professional will likely prescribe treatment consisting of antibiotics, a set of strict dietary guidelines and exercise protocols and a number of herbs and supplements. You will be treated until you are symptom free for a period of 3 to 4 months. The length of your treatment depends on a number of factors including the length of time you have been ill. There is no cookie-cutter approach.

The Erythema Migrans (EM) Rash

In less than 50% of cases, there is no rash.
If there is a rash, in about 9% of cases, it will take the form of a bulls-eye. In most cases, however, it is in the form of a homogeneously colored lesion. The rash can vary in size and appearance and may be found anywhere on the body, not just where the bite has occured. The presence of a rash is a sure sign of infection and treatment should begin immediately.
